Night of Delight

Ches’s Famous Fish & Chips hosts an annual Night of Delight fundraiser in aid of Candlelighters Newfoundland and Labrador. The event includes a silent and live auction, dinner, and dance with live entertainment. It’s an evening full of excitement and generous support for the programs provided to oncology families by the Candlelighters Association.  We're excited to announce this year's Night of Delight for Saturday, November 4th, 2023!

'Cross da Bay! in Support of Candlelighters NL

Scott Doyle first decided to take on an adventure to raise money for Candlelighters NL in 2021, and had big plans to make this an annual event!

Scott kayaked across the bay from Kelligrews to Port de Grave (17 Kms). His original goal was to raise $5000 by the end of May - but with all of your support he reached a grand total of $8,860!

In 2022, Scott was joined by some friends in support of Candlelighters NL!   Scott Doyle and Peter Brown were challenged with a headwind the entire 17 kms!  They didn't give up and were greeted by smiling Candlelighters families, friends and supporters in the early afternoon.  A big thank you to each of you for your enthusiasm and support of Candlelighters NL...Because kids can't fight cancer alone!

This year Scott and his crew will be kayaking from Kelligrews to Brigus and hope to once again pass last year's goal of $10,000!

You can donate to this year's 'Cross da Bay! adventure here until June 30th.  Let's help them reach their fundraising goal:  https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-candlelighters-association-of-newfoundland-labrador/p2p/crossdabay2023/

Go Gold – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Every year approximately 1500 Canadian children are diagnosed with cancer and approximately 25 of these new Canadian diagnoses are children living in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is the leading cause of non-accidental death in children.

During September we advocate for awareness of childhood cancer by reaching out to municipalities across the province to sign a proclamation in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. We also participate in 'Go Gold' lighting ceremonies including a lighting at the Confederation Building where the building is lit in gold for childhood cancer awareness.  We encourage municipalities to participate in ‘Go Gold’ light ceremonies.

Family Christmas Parties

Each year we host a Christmas party in St. John’s for oncology families to come and enjoy the holiday season together! Every party includes entertainment (such as ornament painting, cookie decorating, magic show, live music, etc.), an assortment of food, and a visit from Santa with a gift for each child!

We also host family Christmas parties in other areas in the province, which may vary year to year.
