I was delighted to be nominated to the Candlelighters NL Board and happily accepted following the 2023 AGM.  I learned about Candlelighters when my daughter (2nd of three) was diagnosed in April 2022 with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Stage IIIb.   It was a very challenging time for Sara and our family.  Sara was 16 at the time of her diagnosis and went through a rigorous treatment with multiple complications.  As a mom and a Registered Nurse myself, I knew all too well what was happening and what Sara would need both physically and emotionally through this journey.  I soon became aware of the many supports offered through Candlelighters which helped us navigate through this difficult time.  Camp Delight was a light at the end of Sara’s treatment.  She attended her first Camp Delight within 2 weeks of completing treatment and it was exactly what she needed.  Spending time with kids with similar experiences had an immediate positive effect on her.  I have nothing but love, admiration and respect for all the volunteers and supporters who make this camp and other events possible for Sara and kids like her.  I am so pleased to be able to contribute in some small way to this organization by serving on the board of this amazing organization.
