Guy Courage
Past President

I’ve been involved with Candlelighters NL since 2008. Since 2009 I have held various positions on the Board of Directors including Director, Secretary, and Vice President, and I am currently serving my third year as President. I began volunteering with Candlelighters NL because myself and my family all received so much support from this great organization, and I decided it was time to give something back to other children and families travelling the road of childhood cancer. I enjoy going to the various functions and seeing the smiles on the children’s faces and the families having fun. It means a lot to be able to give them an opportunity to focus on fun and to escape, even for a little while, the daily challenges that they face. My daughters Becky and Jessica loved everything that Candlelighters had to offer, especially Camp Delight. They made so many new friends and had the opportunity to spend time with other kids travelling the same road, and they fully understood the day to day struggles faced by everyone, including the siblings. The entire family is affected by childhood cancer so we need to make sure our supports are also available to the entire family. If my involvement means that other families get to experience, even just a fraction of, the support and enjoyment my family did then my time has been well spent. I take every opportunity to support our families and raise awareness, remember the young lives taken too soon – including my daughter Becky, stand with the families that continue to fight, and celebrate with those that have won their battle. I have been volunteering with various organizations for over 30 years and this has been by far the most rewarding. “…because kids can’t fight cancer alone!”
