Camp Delight

Camp Delight is an 8-day residential camp for children and youth ages 7 to 17 years old, who have been diagnosed with cancer, their siblings, and bereaved siblings. A one-day Day Camp is also offered for children ages 5 to 9 years. These children are either too young to attend camp or are not ready to spend the full week at camp. At camp, campers participate in a variety of themed programs, including recreational activities, arts and crafts, waterfront, and special events. Possibly the favourtie day at camp is Outday, planned by m5, where campers are transported to the capital city for a day of unbelievable suprise activities.

An oncology camp makes possible a degree of independence and personal growth for those who might otherwise be limited by their medical condition. Campers have the opportunity to participate in fun activities with other children and youth that have been impacted by childhood cancer.

Campers are supervised by qualified volunteers, life guards, medical and nursing staff. Should a child need blood work or treatment, he or she will be transported to the Janeway by the medical or nursing staff. Volunteer camp staff, under the leadership of the Camp Director, organizes camp with input from the Candlelighters Association.

Camp Delight meets the standards set by both the Canadian Association of Pediatric Oncology Camps (ACCPO/CAPOC), as well as those set by Children’s Oncology Camping Association International (COCA-i). For more information on these organizations follow these links:
