About
Camp Delight is a week long overnight camp for children and youth ages 7 to 17 years, who are children living with or beyond cancer, their siblings, and bereaved siblings. A one-day Day Camp is also offered for children ages 5 to 9 years, which takes place during the regular camp week. Day camp is for children are either not ready or are too young to attend the full week of camp.
At camp, campers participate in a variety of themed programs, including recreational activities, arts and crafts, waterfront, and special events. Our traditional ‘Out Day’ is probably everyone’s favourite day of camp, a day when campers travel on The Party Bus to St. John’s and surrounding areas for a day of exciting surprise activities.
An oncology camp promotes independence and personal growth for those who may feel limited by their medical condition. Campers have the opportunity to participate in fun activities and relate with other children and youth that have been affected by childhood cancer.
Campers are supervised by qualified volunteers, lifeguards, and medical staff. If a child needs bloodwork or treatment, they will be transported to the Janeway by medical staff.
Camp Delight meets the standards set by both the Canadian Association of Pediatric Oncology Camps (ACCPO/CAPOC), as well as those set by Children’s Oncology Camping Association International (COCA-i). In partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society, a travel subsidy is also available for families living outside of the Avalon Peninsula.
